From Forest Floor to Kiln
Coastal Elements Design specializes in cutting live edge slabs from salvaged logs. Most slabs come from trees that have naturally fallen, are waste from residential tree services or rejected by local lumber mills. Lumber that is too twisted or short for conventional mills make live edge slabs with great character and grain.
Slabs are usually cut 3'' thick and then air-dried for up to a year to prevent checking and warping. After air drying, slabs are finished in a kiln to get the last of the moisture out. Only then are they ready for your dream project!
